Sumo wrestlers from countries, which are members of European Sumo Federation have shown power during Sumo World Championships in Ulaanbatar (Mongolia). It was very successful competition. Most medals from all countries taking part in SWC, in senior, have got Russians (10 medals). In ranking medalists second placed have got ex aequo representatives of Mongolia and Japan (8 medals) And third position have got representatives of Ukraine (7 medals). In weight category under 85 kg gold medal has got Batyr Altyev from Russia. In weight category under 115 kg silver medal has got Michał Luto from Poland, and bronze medal has got Giorgi Meshvildishvili (Georgia) and Atsamaz Kaziev (Russia). In category +115 placed first Vasilii Margiev from Russia, and placed third Serhii Sokolovskyi from Ukraine. Silver medalist in category open has been Eduard Kudzoev from Russia.
The best in weight category under 65 kg women has been Alina Boykova from Ukraine, and third have been Fruzsina Forgo (Hungary) and Vera Koval (Russia). In category under 80 kg the best have been Maryna Maksymenko (Ukraine) and third have been Olimpia Robakowska from Poland and Anna Alexandrova from Russia. In +80 kg silver medal has got Mariia Drboian (Ukraine) and bronze medals has got Olga Davidko (Russia). Gold in open category has taken Anna Poliakova from Russia, and bronze Ivana Berezovska from Ukraine. In team – men and women both – first place have got Russia and third place have got Ukraine.
In junior – the most medals from countries of ESF have got Poland and Russia ( amount of 4 medals). Georgia, Estonia and Ukraine have got at 1 medal. In lightweight third has been representative from Poland – Karol Stasiewicz. In middleweight third has been Kirill Cherepov and in open category first has been Amirani Tsikoridze from Georgia and third has been Maksim Burlak from Russia. In weight category under 60 women the leader have been Karyna Kolesnik from Ukraine, in under 75kg second has been Magda Skrajnowska from Poland. In category +75 bronze has got Pole – Viktoria Maćkowiak. Category open was very good for representatives from Russia and Estonia – Anastasia Nikitina has got second place and Kai Pahkel has got third place. In team men Poland has got 3rd position and in team women 3rd position has got Russia.
Opening ceremony was performed by Yokozuna Hakucho (Professional Sumo Grand Champion). Mongols have shown that they are very hospitable. It was one of the most beautiful world championships in history of sumo. Sports hall was full.
During WSC in Mongolia, Mr. Dariusz Rozum has become vice-president of International Sumo Federation.
